Experiencing Downtown

Grab a bite to eat. Go shopping. Buy planting supplies for container gardens. Urbanite Mary Amidon doesn’t have to go far. Convenience and great amenities are just two of the many reasons Mary cites to explain her love for Downtown Bellevue since moving here 10 years ago.

Mary’s worklife also centers on Bellevue as vice president and private banking team leader in the downtown office of Sterling Savings Bank.

Much like Mary’s garden in warmer months, Downtown Bellevue is reaching new heights. She shares her excitement for the many projects sprouting up that will only add to and enhance the dynamic mix of downtown attractions. She added, “It’s like a light bulb has turned on in Downtown. It has an even better feel to it – the ambiance is great.”

One of Mary’s downtown favorites is the Theatre at Meydenbauer Center, where she has attended numerous performances over the past five years. A theater lover, she also eagerly awaits the arrival of PACE - Performing Arts Center Eastside.

If she could change one thing today about Downtown Bellevue, she would add a comedy club to any one of the many new developments. It would save her a few bridge-crossing trips to clubs in Seattle; the commute times are no laughing matter.

Mary’s decade as a Bellevue Urbanite coincides with the 10th Annual Bellevue Magic Season with festivities kicking-off November 24. The traditions include the popular Group Health Ice Arena in the Downtown Park, as well as Snowflake Lane and its dazzling presentation on Bellevue Way.

“Snowflake Lane gives me the holiday feeling like I am in a big city,” added Mary. “Its no longer just go to the mall, get your goods and get out. Downtown Bellevue has truly become an experience unto itself.”
