A New Class of Happy Hour
Comes to Downtown Bellevue
Caipirnhas,
Mojitos and Hpnotiqs…sound like a foreign language? If you
consider yourself a cocktail connoisseur, these are three words
you should become familiar with fast.
Though cosmos, martinis and margaritas are as popular as ever, a
new class of fruity, refreshing drinks are appearing in bars and
nightclubs around the country and in our own Downtown Bellevue neighborhood.
According to the alcohol industry market researcher Adams Beverage
Group, Americans consumed nearly 5% more spirits and wine in 2003
than the previous year, indicating a growing trend you’ve
probably noticed in the numbers of malt liquor beverages and wine
under $10 that are becoming increasingly available.
Brands like Mike’s Hard Lemonade and Smirnoff Ice, along with
wines like Charles Shaw, aka “Two Buck Chuck” and Australia’s
Yellowtail are increasingly popular among the local happy hour scene.
In addition to the variety of pre-made drinks available, not to
be overlooked are the drinks already famous in New York, Boston
and Los Angeles nightclubs, such as the Mojito, a Cuban mint cocktail
or a Hpnotiq, a French drink with a passion fruit flavor that can
stand-alone or blend well with vodka.
Finally, according to the Adams Beverage Group, anything from Brazil
is a fad with a hot forecast. Cachaca, a sugarcane brandy made in
Brazil and the key ingredient in the trendy Caipirnha, could soon
be as popular in downtown Bellevue as it is in New York and L.A.
So spend an evening or two and check out the local happy hour scene…we’re
sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised with all it has to offer.
Mix it up! Pour your own
version of one of the Tap House Grill’s favorite summertime
drinks, The Sour Patch Martini. Or, if you prefer your drinks made
by a professional, visit the Tap House during its daily happy hour,
or at any hour for that matter!
