Bellevue Downtown Fall 2008

CELEBRATE COMMUTER CONNECTION’S GRAND OPENING

           COMING IN SEPTEMBER

WALK DOWNTOWN BELLEVUEChoosing to travel by bicycle, bus, carpool or vanpool will be a little easier when Commuter Connection opens Thursday, September 11. Downtown Bellevue’s newest transportation resource will be located in the Rider Services building at the Bellevue Transit Center. Residents and commuters are encouraged to stop by anytime between 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on grand opening day.

The Commuter Connection store is just one component of the City’s Connect Downtown plan aimed at relieving congestion. It is funded by a grant from the Washington State Department of Transportation and offered in partnership with the Bicycle Alliance of Washington and TransManage, the transportation service of the Bellevue Downtown Association.

“This is a great first step toward improving the cycling environment in Downtown Bellevue, as well as establishing a convenient location for our growing number of residents and commuters to explore their transportation options,” said Sarah Vega, TransManage Program Manager. “With so much concern about rising fuel costs and protecting the environment, there’s never been a better time to introduce these new services.”

Cyclists will enjoy the convenience of 28 bicycle racks and wire mesh lockers for storing gear inside the store. Anyone can register for a keycard membership that offers 24/7 access to the secure bicycle parking area. More information is available at Commuter Connection or by e-mailing info@bicyclealliance.org.

TransManage staff will be available Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for planning trips by bus, carpool or vanpool. Downtown Bellevue employees and residents can stop in to purchase transit passes, pick up travel information and learn about incentives for commuters who choose not to drive alone. Employers can visit and learn about adding commute benefits to their overall benefits program for employees.

A Bicycle Commute Specialist from the Bicycle Alliance of Washington will also be available on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon to assist cyclists of all abilities with route planning and minor repairs. This offers a great opportunity for new riders to get tips and ideas on incorporating cycling into their daily travel plans.
