Vibrant Living: in the “Big Village”

Since moving to Downtown Bellevue from the nearby Somerset neighborhood about a year ago, Keith Henrickson has forgotten the meaning of the word commute. He and his wife Belinda now walk to the movies, to their favorite Saturday morning breakfast eatery and often to Meydenbauer Beach Park for evening swims.

As Gerding Edlen Development Company’s project director for the up-and-coming Bellevue Towers, Keith also walks to work. Current occupation as skyline shaper notwithstanding, Keith says they are here to stay – as residents. He loves this place and thinks of Downtown Bellevue as a “Big Village.”

“I love the parks, the amenities, the cleanliness, safety and prime location in the region. It’s becoming more vibrant with a strong customer base to support the restaurants.”

Bellevue Towers, located at NE 4th Street and 106th Ave NE, will play a significant role in the future evolution of Downtown Bellevue and what it offers as a desirable location for future urbanites. Set for completion in fall of 2008, the 42 and 43-story towers will be among the tallest buildings in downtown.

“The architecture makes Bellevue Towers completely unique in this region. We view them as a sculptured piece of art with condominiums inside, like two gems looking over Bellevue.”

Do these gems also have tints of green and gold? They might, because the Bellevue Towers project is striving toward a first for residential construction in Downtown Bellevue: a Gold LEED Rating. LEED is an acronym for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design which provides a list of standards for environmentally-sustainable “green building” construction.

Keith and Belinda are even considering a move into one of the units. As for the future of Downtown Bellevue, Keith is quick to share an optimistic outlook. “It will become a Mecca for retail, and one of the most desirable places to live in the Northwest.”
