Resident Enthusiasm : Sharing the Secrets of Downtown Bellevue

Janet Hillier’s enthusiasm for her newly adopted city is infectious. She recently relocated to downtown Bellevue from the San Francisco Bay area seven months ago to work as the executive assistant for the Chairman and CEO of drugstore.com and can’t believe her good fortune. “I still pinch myself when I see Mount Rainier in the distance, how beautiful is that? And the view of Lake Washington just can’t be beat,” said Janet. “Had I known what I know now about Bellevue, I would have thought about moving here long ago.”

She chose downtown Bellevue because she always wanted to be able to walk to work, and is taking in all that the city has to offer. “I love that everything is right here within walking distance – that’s why I chose to live at The Seasons. I was pleasantly surprised by how much there is to offer here – everything I could possibly want. And I like all the great people around town. I was just telling a new found acquaintance that I don’t feel anonymous any longer, I see familiar faces all the time now.”

When not exploring the streets of her new home, she and her husband Brian have been discovering Puget Sound as a whole. “We’ve been to the San Juan Islands, Bainbridge, Port Ludow, Snoqualmie, Kirkland, and downtown Seattle. The Sound Transit is really great here for heading across the lake. I rarely even drive my car.”

But it’s Bellevue that’s won her heart. “I love that this is a real dog-friendly town. Although I don’t have a dog, I’ve met a lot of people with their dogs in Downtown Bellevue Park – people love to talk about their pets, so it’s a great conversation starter. The Live at Lunch summer noon-time concerts are a true treat – I called my husband during one of them and held up the cell phone for him to hear – it was the Retro’s performing – such a fun group!”

She and her husband are now spreading the word about Puget Sound’s and downtown Bellevue’s charm to their friends in the Bay area. “My friends back home still think I’m fibbing when I tell them how beautiful it is here weather-wise, but I’ve been told that this is Bellevue’s best kept secret!” Apparently she hasn’t learned the first cardinal rule of living in the Puget Sound, “Thou Shalt Not Tell People In Other States That It Really Doesn’t Rain Here as Much as They Say It Does.” But we can forgive her that one small transgression – who wouldn’t want to brag about living here?
