Old
Hollywood Style
Meets Downtown Bellevue This Fall
The
glamorous Old Hollywood style we all know from the movies will no
longer be a thing of the past once the new fashion trends appear
just in time for Fall 2004.
The elegance of 50s icons Jackie O, Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly
will reappear as the fashion industry takes on the vintage look,
where even dressing down for a day of shopping or a lunch date will
mean dressing up in an effort to mirror the elegant style of modern-day
glamour girls like Charlize Theron, Gwyneth Paltrow and Sarah Jesssica
Parker.
According to the New York Post, “It’s all about vintage
this season, so imagine going shopping in your grandma’s closet.”
Granny chic is the look, so get ready to don that fur-trimmed collar,
brocade jacket or flashy brooch, even with your favorite pair of
perfect-fit jeans from favorites like Citizens of Humanity, 7 For
All Mankind and Miss Sixty.
Ladies, for on-the-job attire, think mens’ wear with a feminine
touch. Use your man's favorite suit for inspiration and pair that
pin-striped pencil skirt or suit pants and jacket with a lacy undershirt
in the hottest color of the season – plum.
Rich, beautiful fabrics in jewel tones and vintage fabrics like
houndstooth, tweed and plaid will be featured in trendy downtown
Bellevue boutiques like the Pink Alligator, according to co-owner
Cori Durrant.
For that casual weekend getaway or dinner out, go preppy with an
argyle cardigan, updated with a ¾-length sleeve, a big look
for fall. And don’t forget to accessorize – it’s
all in the details this season, so don’t be caught without
a satin ribbon belt, big buttons, sequins, faux fur and a flashy
brooch pinned to your favorite belted coat. If it’s not quite
cold enough for the heavy coat, then ponchos are the way to go –
you’ll find them in all different patterns and textures this
Fall.
And, for the men, the Ivy League look is in – the more well-groomed
and preppy, the better. Tailored suits, bold colors, and patterns
will leave you looking like you stepped out of the Fall issue of
Vogue magazine.
So take your cue from the pages of Old Hollywood, and remember to
think glamorous and extravagant (though not necessarily expensive,
thanks to faux furs, jewels and accessories) when hitting this stores
this Fall.
